About the 2020/2021 African Graduate Fellowships

Citizens of African countries (Egyptians exclusive) are offered fellowships each year for full-time study in any of the programs that American University in Cairo (AUC) offers (nine credits or as required by the program).

Benefits

Applicants will benefit from the fellowship in the following ways:

  • For a maximum of nine credits per semester, the applicants will be provided with tuition fees.
  • Applicants will also receive a monthly stipend.
  • Provision will be made for students’ services and activities fees.
  • Applicants will also be provided with medical services and health insurance fees.
  • Non-residents of Cairo will be given a monthly housing allowance or accommodation in the university residencies at AUC New Cairo Campus.

Eligibility Criteria

AUC expects candidates who are applying for the fellowship to meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Non-Egyptian African Citizens can apply for the fellowship.
  • The fellowship encourages graduate studies of all disciplines.
  • New graduate degree-seeking students who are looking for full admission into any of the graduate programs offered at AUC are required to meet AUC graduate full admission requirements. To do so, click this link.
  • For the cut-off scores for AUC graduate admissions, applicants are required to submit an International TOEFL iBT exam score or academic IELTS exam score.
  • Continuing students who have a wish of retaining the fellowship are expected to maintain a GPA of 3.2.
  • Applicants are expected to have demonstrated financial need.

Responsibilities of Fellows

The fellows are required to do the following during the period of the fellowship:

  • Twelve (12) hours per week of related academic work will be assigned to fellows.
  • Full-time status must be maintained by the students.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.2 must be maintained by students.
  • If the fellow is involved in teaching assistantship duties, a teaching assistantship mandatory training must be completed by him/her. The training needs completion just once.
