Goethe Institut Dreaming New Worlds Program 2024

For the second edition of the program, we invite artists to explore the concept of Collective Illusions. African culture is an embodied tradition contextualized and passed down through generations through mediums such as stories, music, and proverbs. They embody the collective wisdom and reflect the values and experiences of the community.

As the world evolves, new avenues present ways in which culture and social agreements can be interrogated.

We invite multidisciplinary artists, curators, and historians working across various media, including but not limited to visual art, film, writing, performance, and architecture. to explore the means for this contextualization and the contexts and propose work that helps build new contexts for the country.

Program Details

We are particularly interested in individuals who integrate art, technology, and the sciences into their practices. The goal is to explore how the ideas and philosophies we hold as true in society contrast with the reality of the Nigerian experience.

Fifteen artists and scientists will be invited to participate in a one-week Ideathon, where they will form collectives and collaborate to align their practices and ideas with the curatorial vision. Three collectives will be awarded a production grant of NGN 2,500,000 each and will participate in a group exhibition in November 2024 as a part of the Dreaming New Worlds program.
Deadline June 3rd, 2024

The Program awards production and exhibition grants of up to NGN 2,500,000 to three collectives created at a two-week-long ideation. The domains of the program are African Heritage, Ecologies, Social Equity, Mediums & Practices, Narratives, Climate & Urban Development.
