The IWMF Howard G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists 2023 is open and is looking forward to applications from interested candidates. The IWMF majorly puts its focus on aiding projects and professional development opportunities with any travel component.
In lieu of this, the IWMF will be putting their focus on aiding reporting projects and professional development opportunities within the following parameters,
- The IWMF will focus on under-reported local issues with critical global angles.
- The IWMF will focus on undertaking collaborative ambitious reporting projects that will challenge traditional media narratives
- The IWMF will focus on pursuing training and leadership opportunities.
- The IWMF will focus on launching entrepreneurial news projects or acquire the skill to do so.
- The IWMF will focus on pursuing virtual skills training, develop and increase expertise, and also strengthen careers.
About the IWMF Howard G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists 2023
The promotion of the work and advancement of the role of women in the news media across the globe is very critical to transparency and a diversity of voices. The Howard G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists is the first funding initiative of its kind, thereby enabling the IWMF to dramatically expand its support of women journalists. The IWMF was established with a $4 million gift from the Howard G.Buffett Foundation, the fund will aid projects which include educational opportunities, investigative reporting, and media development initiatives.
The IWMF fund for Women journalists will start to accept applications on a rolling basis from January 2023. However, terms of journalists may apply, also the application must be submitted by a woman journalist and her team must be made up of at least 50% women.
Eligibility Criteria
There are some major criteria that need to be put in place before candidates can apply or be considered for the IWMF Howard G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists 2023, they are listed below:
- All women-identifying journalists from any location in the world are considered eligible to apply for IWMF Howard G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists 2023. The IWMF strongly believes that gender does not conform to one notion. They are inclusive of all Journalists who identify as women, this includes trans women and non-binary people.
- Professional journalism must be the applicant’s primary profession.
- All applicants for the IWMF Howard G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists 2023 must have at least one or more years of professional journalism experience.
