SU Happens to be the first African university to be awarded by the Deepmind, a London-based world leader in artificial intelligence research and its application in the real world. DeepMind was Established in London in the year 2010 and its Scholarships are part of the wider initiative created by the company to widen the participation in science and support the larger research ecosystem, including those in Africa.
The scholarship is available to all students who are from the Sub Saharan Region of Africa and wants to pursue research related to machine learning, with recipients selected by the University to commence their course in the year 2021.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Stellenbosch University First DeepMind Postgraduate Scholarships in Africa 2020, all interested applicants are to meet the Eligibility criteria for the award. They include:
- The scholarship is available to anyone from Africa. Preference will be offered to applicants from groups across the continent that have been underrepresented in the global machine learning Landscape. All shortlisted applicants may be offered an invitation for an online interview.
- All Award scholarships would be conditioned on formal acceptance into a full-time postgraduate study at the Stellenbosch University, with a topic of research, focused on machine learning to be improved by the scholarship committee.
